Program De-risking Sprint

Find the bottleneck. Fix it in two weeks.

Winning a big program tests your organization in public, with a deadline attached. The team that wrote the proposal is rarely the team that has to deliver it, and that gap shows up as one of four familiar bottlenecks.

A de-risking sprint takes the one hurting you most and fixes it in fourteen days: find the cause, build the fix, put it in place.

How the fourteen days run

Every sprint has the same three phases, aimed at one bottleneck. One bottleneck at a time is the point: organizations that try to fix everything at once move nothing.

  • Days 1–3: Root cause. A structured root-cause analysis on the bottleneck, using evidence from your own calendar, timesheets and approvals rather than opinion.
  • Days 4–10: Build the fix. The system that removes the constraint — a delegation matrix, an escalation path, a change control board or an asset board, depending on the bottleneck.
  • Days 11–14: Deploy it. The fix goes live inside your team’s actual workflow, and you keep it when the sprint ends.

The four bottlenecks we sprint on

These are the four the diagnostic measures, and each maps to exactly one sprint:

  • Executive Sign-Off Overload — we find the cause with a ishikawa (fishbone) diagram, then fix it with a delegation matrix (raci). Frees 10+ hours of executive time a week.
  • Hero Culture Burnout — we find the cause with a five-whys interruption log, then fix it with a tiered escalation matrix. Restores senior engineering velocity by around 25%.
  • Program Scope Creep — we find the cause with a current reality tree, then fix it with a agile change control board. Stops unbudgeted engineering work.
  • Tooling & Test-Bench Starvation — we find the cause with a value-stream map, then fix it with a digital asset kanban board. Minimizes idle time waiting on hardware test.

It starts with a free strategy session

We go through your diagnostic result, agree which bottleneck is really the one to deal with first on the program you are worried about, and plan the sprint around it. If a sprint is not the right answer, that is what you will hear on the call — the session stands on its own.

What it is not

It is not a reorganization, an audit or a findings report that lands on a shelf. Nobody interviews your whole team. It is fourteen days of focused work on one constraint, and a working system at the end of it.

Who it is for

The sprint is most useful at a specific moment — and considerably less useful outside it:

  • You have recently won a program larger than anything you have run, and the celebration has worn off.
  • A current program is slipping and the explanations you are getting do not add up.
  • You are about to bid on something that will double the size of your organization.
  • Headcount has grown faster than the structure around it and you can feel the seams.

Bring your diagnostic result if you have one. If not, take it first — about five minutes — so the call starts from evidence rather than a blank page.
